Do People Trust You?
If people cannot trust you, you will not succeed. You need people to believe you, have confidence in you, depend on you.
Losing trust is easy. You forget a promise you made. You fail to do what you said you would do.
When business owners, executives and managers cannot be trusted, no one will buy from them or work for them. Bankruptcies, lawsuits and government investigations start with broken agreements.
Governments also run into trouble when they break their word. When its citizens or other countries expect one thing and get another, they demand new leadership.
Trust is essential to marriages. In fact, you could say most divorces stem from broken agreements. "She agreed to not have an affair!" "He was going to treat me well!" "I thought I was going to be getting a husband/wife who ________."
"One's regard for another is based, in no small degree, on whether or not the person keeps his or her word. Even parents, for instance, would be surprised at the extent they drop in the opinion of their children when a promise is not kept."
"People who keep their word are trusted and admired. People who do not are regarded like garbage. Those who break their word often never get another chance."
"One should never permit another to give his or her word lightly. And one should insist that when a promise is made, it must be kept."
"Keep your word once given." — L. Ron Hubbard from The Way to Happiness
Three Recommendations
1. Make firm promises.
When you know you can do something or provide a specific result, don't hesitate to say so. Look people in the eye and tell them the truth. "I will complete that project by Friday, without fail." "If the car won't start, call us and we'll send a tow truck within an hour." "You can deposit the check today."
2. Keep your small promises.
Many people see nothing wrong with breaking small promises. For example, you say, "I'll call you Tuesday" but then you don't call until Thursday. You say, "I won't tell anyone about your wife's drinking problem," but then you tell a few people anyway. You say, "I'll pay you back tomorrow," but then completely forget.
If you don't take small promises seriously, you damage your reputation. You appear disorganized or irresponsible. You make the other person feel unimportant which makes him or her treat you the same way.
When people see that you keep your word on small things, they are more likely to believe you can keep your word on big things.
People will say things like, “Thanks for remembering to send me the file this morning.” “You’re the only one who paid me for yesterday’s lunch.” “You stopped by on Saturday, just as you said you would. Thank you.”
3. When keeping your word is difficult, do it anyway.
If you can't hold up your end, don't rationalize or make excuses. "He won't care that my payment is late." "She knows I usually arrive on time." "They don't treat me with respect, so I don't need to honor their contract."
Instead, make it go right. "Even though my car had to go to the shop, and even though someone bounced a check on me, here is your payment, as promised, on time." Even better, simply say, "Here's your payment."
Stay up late, break a sweat, push yourself, find solutions, work harder, persist, push, demand, get your hands dirty and make it happen despite the cost. The cost of failing is much higher.
10 Benefits of Earning More Trust
1. You build an excellent reputation.
2. You spend less time convincing people to do what you ask them to do.
3. Because you are dependable, people offer you new opportunities.
4. You have more pride as you trust yourself.
5. Even if someone disagrees with you, he or she respects you.
6. If everyone involved in a business deal trusts each other, the deal works well.
7. You can make bigger and bigger promises.
8. People who trust you have no reason to attack you or criticize you.
9. Your marriage is more successful.
10. When people trust you, they are happy to give you money or help you succeed.

How Negative Emotions Kill Your Pay
When the elderly sales manager of ABC Autos retired, car sales dropped by half. Pete, the new sales manager, was yelling at the salespeople to do better, but with no improvement. The company owner, Mr. Christopher, was getting desperate.
He sat down with the sales manager and said, "Pete, you've got to quit yelling at the salespeople. Our old sales manager never yelled. Please give it a try."
Pete said, "Where I come from, you must yell at the sales people if you want to get sales. Fire me if you want, but I'm gonna yell."
Mr. Christopher said, "Okay, I don't care what you do, just get the sales numbers back up this week."
So Pete held a sales meeting and screamed, "IF YOU DON'T MAKE AT LEAST ONE SALE THIS WEEK, YOU ARE FIRED!"
The sales staff ran out and started calling people on the phone. They said things like, "You HAVE to call me back!" "I know it's been six months since you were here, but I need to see you. "Your old car is dangerous; you must come in NOW!"
A couple walked in to browse. Four salespeople charged at them. The couple jumped back, mumbled "No thanks" and headed for the door. Another salesperson was blocking the doorway. "Did you find what you were looking for?"
The couple fought their way out the door and the salespeople went back to their telephones. Mr. Christopher was watching all this and shook his head.
Emotional Reactions
When things don't go your way, how do you react?
Some people get more emotional, more reactive. They get frustrated, sad, angry or worse. They react without thinking.
Unfortunately, this can make a short-term improvement. This is why bosses will threaten, scream and pound. They don't realize FORCED productivity is slavery and always backfires.
In 1971, L. Ron Hubbard wrote: "THE PRIMARY BARRIER TO PRODUCTION IS HUMAN EMOTION AND REACTION."
Careers, jobs and businesses fail when emotional reactions take over.
Mr. Christopher Hires a New Manager
Of course, sales at ABC Autos went from bad to worse and Pete was fired. The owner, Mr. Christopher, decided to run the sales people himself.
First, he held a sales meeting with gourmet pizza. They celebrated Pete's departure.
Next, he showed the staff how to use kindness and intelligence to sell cars. The emotional outbursts and reactive behavior were gone.
By the end of the week, sales increased and continued to increase each week.
Everyone -- managers, employees and the self-employed -- all ruin their productivity and income if they dramatize their negative emotions.
Sixty Examples of Human Emotions and Reactions That Hurt Your Income
You must remove, control or ignore the following types of emotions and reactions to improve your personal power and performance. They are wrecking your forward progress.
Whining, snippy comments, avoidance, the silent treatment, revenge, disrespect, acting up, resentment, moaning, sulking, death wishes, blaming, fear, mocking someone, hate, getting upset, yelling, lump-in-throat sadness, emotional pain, complaining, being grouchy, mood swings, hostility, false sincerity, making someone wrong, political games, jealousy, preaching, overwhelming someone, anxiety, sarcasm, despair, harassment, pretending to be hurt, disagreeing without thinking, giving sympathy, demanding sympathy, getting even, antagonism, terror, being critical, belligerence, exasperation, acting stupid, regret, pity, gossiping, feeling useless, apathy, anger, lying, hopelessness, being stressed out, crying, confusion, sighing, being glum, hysteria, being a victim and cutting off communication.
Reaching your goals and succeeding as never before means you need high-level performance. You must be capable of high-volume work. The road to success does not include these negative emotional reactions.
Five Examples
1. Office Politics
Office games waste time and slow down career success. "Jack took credit for my project so I'm going to crash his computer. " "Sue didn't invite me to lunch so I'll tell the boss she is lazy." "If I can make Wendell look bad, he'll get fired and I'll get that corner office."
2. Marriages
Couples become miserable when their negative emotions and reactions pop up. "He became so cold and heartless, I didn't want him to touch me." "She didn't notice my work in the backyard so I decided to spend more time drinking with my friends." "We haven't really talked for two years."
3. Children
"Clean up your room or I'm locking you in it." "My dad yells at me every time I talk about my boyfriend, so I'll just stay out all night." "Losers get bad grades at school."
4. Management
Executives are praised or demoted to a large degree by how well they handle their emotions and reactions.
For example, employees lose confidence when the boss says, "I didn't like how you looked at me this morning" or "I'm really depressed right now."
Employee performance suffers when bosses say, "You're such a stupid idiot!" or "Once again you have ruined my day."
5. Self
When you decide to have negative emotions or reactions, you hurt yourself the most. "I'm too upset to work any longer today." "I'll be just secretive about what I'm really doing as he scares me." "If I look really depressed, she'll feel sorry for me and give me a raise."

Quote of the Day: The effects of kindness are not always seen immediately
The effects of kindness are not always seen immediately. Sometimes it takes years until your kindness will pay off, and is returned to you. And sometimes you never see the fruits of your labors, but they are there, deep inside of the soul of the one you touched. - Dan Kelly

Joy for Your Job
“Work is only as good as it's enjoyed, not as it's paid.” -- L. Ron Hubbard (from The Problems of Work)
When you do what you love, your odds of success are much greater. You have more passion, more energy and more fun.
When you enjoy your job, you look forward to Monday mornings. Your days fly by. You make steady progress.
Work enjoyment is contagious. The people around you get along better. They follow your example and get more done.
So what if you do not enjoy your work?
The Parts You Hate
Every job, every profession and every business includes distasteful aspects--the complicated, boring, dirty or difficult parts of the job. Yet conquering these difficulties, and enjoying your job anyway, is how you succeed.
To get rich, simply find and perform an important job most people can't do or won't do. For example, drilling tiny holes in people's teeth or performing surgery on people's stomachs is very tough work, but it makes dentists and physicians wealthy.
If you have no love for your job, the difficult parts become unbearable. You hate going to work. You hate the people. You want to quit.
When you love the purpose and results of your work, the difficulties are easier to deal with. You take pride in conquering them. The benefits of the job outweigh the liabilities.
Five Steps to Getting More Enjoyment from Your Work
1. List what you like about your work. What makes it worth doing? For example, working with good people, improving your customers' lives, doing a technically perfect job and so on.
2. List what you dislike about your work. What makes you want to quit? For example, working long hours, customer complaints, health risks, mean bosses and so on.
3. List your purposes for this job. Why did you start? What is the big picture? Why do you do this work?
4. Review and add items to the above three lists. Continue until you feel more joy for your work. When the lists are balanced, your passion takes over and you love your job.
5. If the four steps above do not help you find joy for your job, you need to make some changes.
Change your routine. Work with different people. Do a better job. Transfer to a different department. Change directions, get a new job or learn a new profession.
Change a negative attitude. Learn to accept help. Stop cutting corners.
Keep making changes until the joy of your job is greater than its difficulties.
If you own a business that gives you no joy, change it as well. Make it into an operation that makes you happy. Replace difficult employees. Delegate more responsibilities. Improve the quality of the service or product. Make the operation bigger or smaller. Sell out and start another business.
Go!
When you love your work, you recognize opportunities and make better decisions. You know where you are going. You are on the road to your major, significant success.
Take your foot off the brakes and accelerate!

How to Be a Better Friend to Yourself
How to Be a Better Friend to Yourself
If you hate yourself, you will most likely fail. If you love yourself, your chances of success are much higher.
So what can you do to increase your love for yourself?
Simple!
"If you love others, you will love yourself."
"If you hate others, you will hate yourself."
"A healthy state of being is to be a friend to yourself." -- L. Ron Hubbard
Exercise
You can try this concept right now.
1. Take a minute to hate people. Look at a few people and just hate them. How do you feel about yourself?
2. Now love others. Look around and love everyone you see. How do you feel about yourself now?
3. Spend all day loving people. Find something you love about everyone you meet. Continue until your opinion of yourself improves.
Your road to success is much easier if you are your own best friend!
